Vintage CorningWare collections sell for thousands on eBay

Australians are urged to check out their old CorningWare collections, with vintage pieces priced up to $15,000 on buy and sell sites.

Iconic kitchen utensils took pride of place on dinner tables across Australia throughout the 70s, with the distinctive floral and vegetal designs familiar to many.

But now a demand for specific vintage CorningWare designs from collectors has seen an influx of listings on eBay.

Various single casserole dishes are listed for up to $8,000, while CorningWare sets are sold for $15,000.

One dish offered for $6,995 has 31 watchers, while another listing for $5,890 has a staggering 91 watchers — interest is intense.

An eBay seller told 7NEWS.com.au that “demand has never been higher”.

“My mom collected CorningWare and it was very popular at the time, but it’s been gathering dust in our house for years,” she said.

“I’ve sold a few coins – with my mom’s blessing of course – and have made around $9,000 so far. I have another one listed right now, which I’m hoping to get around $2 for. $500.

“I never thought it could be so valuable. When I was younger I thought it was just daggy.

“Now it’s making us more money than I ever dreamed of.”

One of CorningWare’s most sought-after designs by collectors is the Spice Of Life range, which features a distinctive design incorporating various vegetables, greenery and the words “L’Echalote La Marjolaine”.

Other rare designs such as Wildflower – made 1977-1984 – and Floral Bouquet – made 1971-1975 – can fetch up to $10,000 online.

The Cornflower range, with a blue floral pattern, is the most common model but can still fetch up to $1,750 on auction sites.

“A piece of CorningWare, in a little-produced model, sold on eBay recently for US$7,000 (AUD$9,800),” says a glass expert dean six. “It was a 1970s product that fizzled out.”

“Collecting is often what you remember, which is why it’s important now because baby boomers are buying back what they grew up with. Baby boomers are decorating with these pieces in their homes.
