Digital marketing has clearly become a key part of a successful marketing strategy for accountants. However, with so many businesses already using digital marketing techniques, accountants really need to go the extra mile to stand out from the competition.

Despite the new challenges faced by accounting firms each year, the industry has proven to be extremely resilient in the face of adversity. To better understand the current state of the accounting industry, CPA Site Solutions, a market-leading provider of accounting websites, conducted a survey of 164 accountants, CPAs, bookkeepers and financial planners in sole proprietorships and firms. with larger multiple partners.

As clients increasingly turn to the Internet to find and research accounting service providers, the following industry overview indicates that accounting firms are following suit, with great success. Even in the midst of a global pandemic, CPA Site Solutions has found that:

  • 53% of respondents reported an increase in their income in 2021.
  • 15% of survey participants reported annual revenue greater than $1,000,000.
  • Online marketing techniques have consistently been ranked as the most important for practices heading into 2022.
  • When comparing the top performing companies with over $1,000,000 in revenue to their peers, there are notable differences in their growth and marketing strategies.

Through its research, CPA Site Solutions found that while more than half of all respondents (52%) had monthly marketing budgets under $250, nearly two-thirds (64%) of top companies with a over $1,000,000 had at least twice that marketing budget.

Not only that, but top performers ranked digital marketing techniques such as search engine optimization, websites, and online reviews as even more important (and traditional marketing techniques as even less important). ) than the overall sample.

“After comparing the strategies of the top performing companies with the entire sample, it’s fair to say that digital marketing has become a key part of a successful accounting marketing strategy,” said Kelli Bock, head of brand marketing at CPA Site Solutions.

“With so many businesses already using digital marketing techniques, accountants really need to go the extra mile to stand out from the competition.”
