Punk Avenue – the digital web studio is aptly named after its fun office on Passyunk Avenue in South Philly and the original home of the open source project Apostrophe – has been acquired, he announced this week.

The purchase comes from Yes&, an integrated marketing agency based in Alexandria, Va. that provides branding, advertising, digital marketing, and analytics services, among others. The companies have not disclosed financial details of the deal.

All P’unk Avenue staff will be incorporated into the Yes & team as part of the deal, and the founder Geoff DiMasi, Co-founder Alex gilbert and partner Tom boutell will focus on and manage the content management system spin-off, Apostrophe, president Anthony robinson said in a blog post.

In 2019, the management of P’unk Avenue decided to launch its open source product Apostrophe Assembly, a multi-site platform that allows businesses and universities to “be their own Squarespace or Shopify”, DiMasi Recount Technically. Earlier this year, the team also released Apostrophe 3.0, which is powered by RESTful APIs from scratch, unlike its version 2.0, which had custom APIs and a separate apostrophe headless module. The companies are independent of each other, although both were founded by DiMasi.

Robinson himself will join the Yes & management team, remaining president of P’unk Ave. The company has struggled to withstand whatever 2020 and 2021 have brought them, he wrote, and the deal will help “withstand any future downturns and unforeseen circumstances.

“P’unk Ave is not going anywhere. Our roots have run deep in the Philadelphia community for over 15 years, ”Robinson wrote in the blog post. “Punks and ex-P’unks continue to do amazing things in our industry and beyond, from working in places like WordPress and Slack, helping to build their own communities and to run their own businesses. This heritage is important to our team and our partners.

Last month, Yes & also acquired the digital management company Boldr Strategic Consulting, saying the deal would expand its digital capabilities, with a particular focus on strategy. This acquisition of P’unk Ave adds branding, strategy, creative thinking, user experience, website design and application development expertise to Yes. It aims to be a go-to agency in the Mid-Atlantic, he said.

“We are honored to be welcomed into the big Yes & family. By combining Punk Avenue’s digital expertise with all that Yes & has to offer, we look forward to serving our partners in new ways, ”Robinson said in a statement. “P’unk Avenue will continue to be a place focused on a diverse human experience – and elevating the important work and missions of our partners. “

Yes & said he would maintain his relationship with Punk Avenue customers. In the blog post, Robinson said P’unk Ave will continue to focus its work on nonprofits, higher education institutions, associations and other “motivated” clients.
